Mako Smart Robotics: Move Better, Live Pain-Free

Knee or hip pain shouldn’t keep you on the sidelines. At Baptist Health, we want to help you get back to the activities you love—whether that’s gardening, playing with your grandkids, or just walking without pain.

We are proud to offer Mako Smart Robotics, an advanced tool that helps our surgeons perform knee and hip replacements with incredible precision.

It is important to know: The robot does not do the surgery. Your orthopedic surgeon is in control at all times. The Mako system is simply a high-tech guide that helps your doctor create a plan just for you.

Why Choose Robotic Joint Replacement?

Every knee and hip is different. That is why a “one-size-fits-all” approach doesn’t work. Mako technology allows your surgeon to create a 3D model of your specific joint before surgery even begins.

This personalized plan helps us operate with greater accuracy, which can lead to a better experience for you.

Benefits often include:

  • Less Pain: Because the surgery is so precise, many patients feel less pain during recovery.
  • Faster Recovery: You may be able to walk sooner and return to your daily life faster.
  • Preserving Healthy Bone: The robot helps surgeons target only the damaged part of your joint, saving as much of your healthy bone as possible.
  • A More Natural Feeling: Precise placement of your new joint can make it feel more natural when you move.

Surgeries We Perform

Our orthopedic teams use the Mako system for three main procedures:

  • Total Knee Replacement – For patients with severe knee pain caused by arthritis. This replaces the entire knee joint to restore movement.
  • Partial Knee Replacement – For patients who only have damage on one side of the knee. This keeps the healthy parts of your knee intact.
  • Total Hip Replacement – For patients with degenerative hip disease. This replaces the damaged hip joint to relieve pain and improve walking.
