Baptist Health Medical Center-Conway Celebrates 10 Years of Hope & Healing

CONWAY, Ark. – This September marks a significant milestone for Baptist Health Medical Center-Conway (BHMC-Conway) as the facility celebrates 10 years of serving the Faulkner County community. Since opening its doors on Sept. 16, 2016, the hospital has remained steadfast in its commitment to a healing ministry rooted in faith, compassion and a patient-centered philosophy.

The hospital’s guiding motto is simple: “There is nothing more important than our people and our patients.”

“Our story isn't written in the facilities we have opened,” said April Bennett, president of Baptist Health Medical Center-Conway. “It is written in the lives we have had the honor to heal.”

Over the last 10 years, BHMC-Conway has evolved to meet the specific health care needs of the region. By integrating critical service lines – including pulmonology, endocrinology, obstetrical care and rehabilitation – the hospital has successfully bridged health care gaps, reducing the need for residents to travel long distances for specialized services.

“We are also fortunate to be part of the Baptist Health system for when patients require more extensive services that are not offered in Conway,” Bennett said. “As part of the system, our physicians and team members can collaborate directly with individuals at other Baptist Health facilities to ensure patients receive the care they need.”

BHMC-Conway has achieved notable clinical distinctions, serving as a certified Level III Trauma Center, a Primary Stroke Center through DNV Healthcare and the only “Baby-Friendly” designated facility in Faulkner County. Technological advancements have been a cornerstone of the facility’s growth, from its origins with 100% “smart beds” to current implementations of patient-centered rounding software and advanced treatment devices like Inspire and Genio.

A key factor in the hospital's success is its staff. Nearly 20 percent of the workforce has remained with the hospital since its opening, a testament to a retention strategy that prioritizes culture and engagement. Through town halls, huddles, and internal appreciation events, including the "Since Year One" badge initiative, BHMC-Conway fosters an environment where employees feel valued and aligned with the hospital's mission.

“This longevity speaks to a culture where employees don't just work here – they belong here,” Bennett said. “Our hope is that every employee feels valued and respected, and truly understands what our Mission is and how their role supports it.”

BHMC-Conway continues to refine its patient-care model by prioritizing real-time feedback. Through leadership rounds and a Patient and Family Advisory Council, the hospital actively involves patients in their care experience, ensuring that feedback is incorporated into operational improvements swiftly.

In honor of its 10th anniversary, BHMC-Conway is hosting internal and external events. The hospital also launched the “10 for 10 Initiative,” committing to 10 distinct acts of service to address social determinants of health. Recent successes include:

• Raising over $2,100 for the THV11 Annual Summer Cereal Drive.
• Stocking care closets for the Conway Public School District.
• Providing free “Stop the Bleed” training classes for the community.
• Educating the community about obstructive sleep apnea during Dinner with a Doctor.

As BHMC-Conway enters its second decade, its strategic focus remains on workforce development, recognizing that quality care relies on a foundation of dedicated healthcare professionals.
