Healing the Whole Child
Despite all the care you give your child, he or she may still develop an illness that requires hospitalization. BAPTIST HEALTH takes a truly comprehensive and compassionate approach to the health and recovery of your child. You can look to the pediatric team for advice on every aspect of your child's development, including physical, emotional, social, spiritual, and cultural.
When your child is ill, you can take comfort in the fact that our Pediatric Unit has some of the most skilled, experienced physicians and caregivers available. In addition, every registered nurse is certified in Pediatric Advanced Life Support.
We know the circumstances of your being here probably are cause for anxiety even fear. However, let us assure you the doctors, nurses, therapists and other allied healthcare professionals at BAPTIST HEALTH will do everything we can to care for your child, you and your family.
The following information is designed to help make your child's stay at BAPTIST HEALTH more comfortable. Feel free to ask the nurses and other members of your child's team any questions you might have. They will do their best to provide answers and help you understand the care your child is receiving.
FAMILY-CENTERED
CARE
At BAPTIST HEALTH we believe the family significantly influences
the patient's health and well-being. Because of this influence,
families are respected and supported in their roles as caregivers
and decision-makers.
The core principles of our family-centered care philosophy are:
- Treat individuals with dignity and respect.
- Communicate and share complete, unbiased information with patients
and families in ways that are affirming and useful.
- Help individuals and family members build on their strengths by
encouraging them to participate in the care of their child.
- Develop policies, procedures and staff education that supports family-centered care.
VIRTUAL TOUR - PEDIATRIC UNIT
Whether you need to come to BAPTIST HEALTH for an overnight stay or longer, it might be helpful for you to see what it looks like. Below are links to "Virtual tours" of a few common places of our Pediatric Unit.
Patient
Room
If you need to stay at BAPTIST HEALTH overnight, you might share
a room with another patient or have a private room.
Nurses' Station
A nurses' station normally has a lot of people around. Nurses, respiratory
therapists and doctors can often be found at the nurses' station
talking or writing notes.
Playroom
A playroom is a place where patients who stay overnight can go to
play with toys. The nurses and doctors can come in a playroom, but
it's a Medical Free Zone so they can't ask you questions about your
health or do any tests.
