Treatment
The interdisciplinary team is comprised of highly qualified professionals with expertise in rehabilitation. Care is directed by the Physiatrist who specializes in rehabilitation medicine. Treatment programs are individualized according to the patient's needs and may include specialist in rehabilitation nursing, occupational and physical therapy, speech-language pathology, recreation therapy and medical social work. Treatment may include training in mobility, balance, self-care, speech, and swallowing.
Education
Patients and their families will receive educational instruction in many important areas to help facilitate the return to a functional lifestyle. Individualized family training with the members of the treatment team may be scheduled if the patient is likely to require assistance with mobility or self-care after discharge. Patient and family education related to the disease process, equipment needs, community resources, and medications will be provided.
Discharge Planning
Discharge planning begins for you and your family with admission to the Rehabilitation Center. We know that patient's rehabilitation needs do not end with discharge from the rehabilitation center. To ensure continued improvement some patients may continue therapy through home health or outpatient services. The social worker will assist with needed arrangements.
Patient Outcomes
In 2005, BHRC-NLR admitted 590 patients. Although the severity and impairment vary dependent on the diagnosis on an average 81% of our patients were discharged back home. Our average length of stay was 12 days.
Referral
Referral can be made by a physician, family member, friend or self-referral. A screening examination will be conducted prior to admission. The cost of treatment is covered as hospitalization by Medicare and most private insurance carriers.
