What is Home Infusion Therapy?
Home Infusion Therapy is the administration of intravenous medications to patients in the convenient and familiar surroundings of their own home.
With training from our BAPTIST HEALTH Home Infusion professional team, patients and families take an active role in all aspects of their therapy.
Who makes up the BAPTIST HEALTH Home Infusion Professional Team?
- Critical Care Trained Registered Nurses who have advanced
knowledge in Infusion Therapy, who will train you, your family,
or caregiver in infusion and aseptic techniques so that you may
administer your own medications.
Registered
Nurse Intake Coordinator and Case Manager who will work with
your physician, family/caregiver, home health agency and insurance
company to coordinate your care and benefits.
- Clinical Pharmacists will prepare your medications in
a state-of-the-art ISO 5 room, monitor your lab work and drug
therapy, and work with your physician to optimize your clinical
outcome.
- Reimbursement Specialists are here to handle all financial
aspects of your care and treatment as soon as you are referred
to BAPTIST HEALTH Home Infusion. Our experienced Specialists will
contact your health insurance provider to determine your benefits
and coverage and we will review our findings with you. BAPTIST
HEALTH Home Infusion will bill your insurance for you!
- Home Service Representatives deliver all prescribed medications, supplies, and equipment directly to your home. They will also pick the equipment once the therapy has ended.
What type of medication can be provided?
A wide variety of medications can safely and conveniently be given at home. These include:
- Total Parenteral Nutrition
(Feeding Through the Veins)
- Anti-Infective Therapy
(Antibiotics, Antivirals, Antifungals)
- Chemotherapy
- Pain Management
- HIV-Related Therapies
- Hydration Therapies
- Enteral Nutrition is also provided
(Feeding Through a Tube in the G.I. Tract)
How does Home Infusion Therapy Work?
All
Home Infusion Therapy begins and ends with an order from your physician.
As the only Arkansas Home Infusion Therapy provider and the only hospital affiliated Home Infusion Company in the state it is our goal to provide you with uninterrupted care
and the most positive clinical outcome attainable.
After we receive the order from your physician, our Registered Nurse Clinician will visit with you in your hospital room to discuss your therapy. This discussion will include:
- Any concerns you may have regarding your therapy
- Assess your willingness and ability to administer your own medications
- Begin the training process
Prior to Discharge:
- The BAPTIST HEALTH Arkansas Home Infusion Clinical Team will determine the
appropriate method of administration of your medication that will
meet your therapeutic needs and your abilities.
- We are able to select from a wide variety of infusion devices;
from stationary pumps, to small portable pumps and non-pump options
as well.
- We use a totally needleless system so that you and your family
will not have to worry about needle sticks.
- We also teach you the fundamentals of aseptic, or sterile technique and how to monitor your insertion site.
After Discharge:
- Once you are at home, and comfortable with you Home Infusion Therapy,
the BAPTIST HEALTH Home Infusion Nurse Clinician will visit you
as needed.
- Our team of Clinical Pharmacists and Registered Nurses monitor your therapy very closely, including lab data, and report all results to your physician.
Is Home Infusion Therapy Covered by Commercial Insurance, Medicare, and Medicaid?
BAPTIST HEALTH Home Infusion accepts patients with most payer sources, both commercial and governmental. The coverage for Medicare and Medicaid is very specific and will be discussed with you by one of our Reimbursement Specialists in advance.
